Nancy O'Dell's career began in Myrtle Beach South Carolina as a news reporter and anchor at WPDE-TV. Later, she was a morning news anchor for WCBD TV and acted as a crime reporter. O'Dell's reports in Charleston concerning the lack of leniency by police regarding DUI cases led to a State Law Enforcement Division to investigate. It led to state authorities issuing more strict rules in these instances. The Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell an award for the Best Report of the year Award to all South Carolina media. In the years following her stay living in Charleston, O'Dell worked as anchor for the NBC's Miami Station WTVJ-TV and also as an investigative reporter. Then she became a part of Access Hollywood to work as a weekday and weekend correspondent. O'Dell, in addition to being the lead anchor for Access Hollywood, also appears on NBC News Today as well Dateline NBC. She has covered such events like The Oscars The Emmys The Grammys and The Golden Globe Awards as and co-hosted a variety of pre-show arrivals in preparation for The Emmys and the Golden Globes. Other co-hosting credits include the Miss USA pageant, and Miss Universe.
